November 21, 2008

This November, the club saw a slight problem with our meeting... SNOW! Our speaker Walter Meshaka had to cancel (seeing as he was stuck in Harrisburg traffic for hours) and so we were forced to rely on our backup plan. Fortunately, Jesse made it and had his a reptile related DVD with him.

A good meeting all in all proving that, even when things don't go as planed, we can still have a good time! We look forward to the elections of new officers coming in December (As if we didn't just have elections for country officials now we have them for the herp club!).

Take care,

Mailing list

It's been a long time coming but we have a mailing list for our club. If you are interested subscribing I would suggest commenting here or going to Yahoo pets groups and looking up Lancaster herpetological society (LCHerp).

There are an average of thirty messages sent out a week ranging from important club announcements to neat little news blurbs featuring reptiles.

Join up and have fun!

September 19, 2008

This month we were treated to a special member's night of sorts. First we welcomed Jesse Rothacker who presented a video of his trip to Costa Rica. We all marveled at the magnificence of Jesse's photographic prowess! It was nice to see wild animals of another region. Jesse is very lucky to have had the opportunity to travel to such a herper's paradise!

Next we welcomed Roy Mellot, who also had some photos to show us. Roy is a member of our club who has developed an interest in field herping, and he has hundreds of photos to prove it! We appreciate Roy's willingness to share his photos even if he was unwilling to simply give us a call to come with him on one of his herp excursions!

We had initially scheduled to have a theme night at the Park City Mall in Lancaster but there was a last minute issue with this and now our October meeting will be in Hershey at Zoomerica for their creatures of the night. This meeting will not take place at the North Museum so be sure to contact an officer to get the info if you plan to attend!

Take care,
-Adam-

June, July, and August meetings

This summer went pretty smoothly for the society.
In June we had a member's night during which the member's of the club had their opportunity to shine and show off some of the gems from their collection!
July was a really exciting month as we welcomed renowned herpetologist Dr. Carl Ernst. Carl has published many books including the one pictured above. He gave a wonderful talk concerning some of his work on Copperheads (Agkistodon contortrix). It would be nice to have Carl talk again (hint hint).
In August we had Greg Feaster a nearby breeder of many interesting species including rat snakes, Pituophis, and others. Like Demian Lewis, it was interesting to hear a hobbyist talk about captive herps. Hobbyists have different perspectives and insights into herps that naturalists often time lack. Greg's website is http://www.greggsrb.com/ .
